Filter Hops On Toyota, 'Jane Says' On Way

(12/10/99, 4 p.m. ET) - In a unique cross promotion, Filter has teamed with Toyota to help market the sleek Celica and MR2000 lines of cars. On Sunday (Dec. 12) there will be a webcast of Filter's Hammerstein Ballroom show in New York at the Toyota site, www.isthistoyota.com at 12 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. PT. It will be aired again on Tuesday (Dec. 14) at 3 p.m. 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. PT, with other repeats scheduled for Dec. 16 and Dec. 18. Warner Bros. Records VP of strategic marketing Dan Nathanson tells LAUNCH that there's an added bonus to the relationship. "They have allowed us to tag onto their ads. We've created the spot, which is basically the Filter video 'Take A Picture,' and it just says, 'Check in to isthistoyota.com and see Filter live.' So what they've done is allowed us to promote the webcast on the back end of one of their ads." Nathanson adds that Filter doesn't have a deal to endorse Toyota cars. The ads are scheduled to run on various TV networks starting this (Sunday) Dec. 12. Meanwhile, Richard Patrick and Limp Bizkit will join forces to record a version of the classic Jane's Addiction song "Jane Says" in the coming months. The recording will be released sometime in the future. This comes as no surprise as Patrick has openly admitted his appreciation for Jane's Addiction, and he joined Limp Bizkit for a cover of Jane's' "I Would For You" at the Oct. 31 Family Values show. Filter will be performing on the Late Show With David Letterman on Dec. 15. -- Darren Davis, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions? Send them to newstips@launch.com.
