Counting Crows' Adam Duritz Expected To Join Cracker

(10/20/98, 6 p.m. PDT) - If you're lucky enough to have tickets to Cracker's shows this Wednesday and Thursday at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif. and Friday at the Fillmore in San Francisco, you'll likely be in for a special treat. Joan Osborne and Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows are expected to join David Lowery and the boys onstage for a song or two. For Friday's show, the band will let fans vote for the encore of their choice during a chat, scheduled for 9 p.m. PDT on America Online. The choices are "Pictures Of Matchstick Men," the Status Quo song Lowery's previous group, Camper Van Beethoven, covered on its Key Lime Pie album; the Flamin' Groovies' "Shake Some Action," which Cracker contributed to the Clueless soundtrack; "White Riot," which the band recorded for the forthcoming Clash tribute album; and "Rainy Days And Mondays," which the band recorded for the 1994 Carpenters tribute album If I Were A Carpenter. Cracker's connection to Osborne and the Counting Crows comes from Lowery's work as a producer. In March, he produced several tracks for Osborne at Sound Of Music Studios in Richmond, Va. Cracker severed as Osborne's backing band on several of the songs. Lowery has also been busy co-producing the next Counting Crows album with Dennis Herring. Both albums are expected sometime in 1999.
