(6/23/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl has long championed the cause of neo-grunge royalty Queens Of The Stone Age, and now he's getting a chance to give them a helping hand....or two.
Grohl, who was the drummer of Nirvana, will return to the drum kit for a few songs on QOTSA's forthcoming album. However, a publicist for the Queens had no comment on when Grohl would be heading in to record with the band on tracks for the follow-up to Rated R, and noted the album isn't on the release schedule.
QOTSA and the Foo Fighters toured together last year. LAUNCH asked Queens bassist-vocalist Nick Oliveri about Grohl and company. "We know those guys pretty well," he said. "They're all good friends of ours, and I like some of the earlier stuff a lot better. But, it's cool man. It's like a band that's a little more poppy or something and a little less metal, I guess."
However, Grohl is still into metal. He is mixing his metal side project Probot, but a spokesperson for Foo Fighters couldn't comment on when that will be released.
