DJ Lethal Says There's More To Limp Bizkit Than Wes Borland

(9/25/03, 1 p.m. ET) -- Limp Bizkit's new album, Results May Vary, is the group's first release since guitarist Wes Borland left in 2001. After a national search sponsored by the Guitar Center that led nowhere, Limp Bizkit brought in former Snot guitarist Mike Smith earlier this year. The band then scrapped an album they had already finished so they could work Smith into the mix.
Limp Bizkit's DJ Lethal told LAUNCH that he hopes people will see that Borland's departure wasn't a crippling blow for the band. "You know, everybody thinks Wes Borland came in there and all of a sudden we had, you know, 'Nookie,' 'Rollin',' and all these songs, when it was really, you know...it's not," Lethal said. "He didn't just come into a room with all these amazing riffs and blast 'em out and go, 'Hey guys, listen to all these phat tracks.' It was everybody tailoring and molding."
Results May Vary was produced by Limp Bizkit leader Fred Durst, who also directed the video for the single "Eat You Alive."
A bonus DVD with a 35-minute excerpt from the band's upcoming DVD Poop is included in a limited, deluxe edition of the album. The full-length version of Poop, which will come out later this year, has interviews, performance and backstage footage, and some special guests.
Limp Bizkit hasn't announced any tour plans for the album. There should be a few shows this year, which will be followed by an extensive tour next year.
In related news, according to a story on MTV.com, reclusive guitar legend Eddie Van Halen was one of 11 axemen who "auditioned" for the position that was finally filled by Mike Smith. Although the story does not elaborate on this rather hard-to-imagine scenario, the website melodicrock.com had plenty to say. According to the site, Durst did call Van Halen and invite him to jam--which Van Halen did--but it was all just for fun. An unnamed source told melodicrock.com, "[To suggest that] Eddie auditioned for anyone is pure and unadulterated bullsh-t and an insult to Ed and anyone who knows him."
