3 Doors Down Hits Number One On Top 40 Chart

(4/23/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- 3 Doors Down climbed to Number One this week on the Billboard Top 40 Tracks chart with "When I'm Gone."

The song is the band's first single from its multi-platinum sophomore release, Away From The Sun.

The military-themed video for the track, which shows the band's support for U.S. troops, has stayed in rotation for more than 18 weeks on VH1, MTV, and MTV2. It reached Number One on all three channels.

3 Doors Down is currently on the road with Theory Of A Deadman opening for them. 3 Doors Down guitarist Chris Henderson explained that the band is having fun performing live again and winning back the fans that enjoyed the band's 2000 debut album, The Better Life.

"You know you get used to and you get spoiled by the big shows, and amphitheaters, and lots of screaming fans--you get spoiled by that," Henderson said. "And then when you come back out 10 months later, and some of those people are now Nickelback fans, or Creed fans, or some are Coldplay [fans], and you've got to go out and get 'em again. That's the fun of what I do for a living is going out and gettin' those fans because it makes you work hard, you know?"

3 Doors Down will perform at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky on Wednesday (April 23).
