Great White, Warrant & L.A. Guns May Be Planning Charity Tour

(5/1/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- In the wake of the tragic fire in February that killed 99 people during a Great White concert at The Station in West Warwick, Rhode Island, two members of the group are reportedly planning a summer tour to raise money for the families of the victims.

Great White's attorney, Ed McPherson, made the announcement outside the Key Club in West Hollywood, California Tuesday (April 29), before the first public performance by Great White guitarist Mark Kendall and lead singer Jack Russell since the fire.

McPhersons said, "Their thoughts from the beginning have been, 'What are we going to do to help the victims?' And the only thing they do is perform." Details about the tour were still being worked out, but McPherson hinted that Warrant and L.A. Guns were among the groups that may join the tour.

Tuesday's show was a benefit for Ty Longley, the Great White guitarist who died in the blaze. During the performance Russell told the audience, "If this has taught me anything, it's how fragile and precious life really is." The proceeds from the show will go to a trust fund that's been set up for Longley's unborn child, who is due in early August.

It's widely believed that Great White's pyrotechnics caused the fire at the Rhode Island venue. A grand jury investigation is still underway.
