Cake To Celebrate New Release With Surprise Show In L.A.

(7/25/01, 1 p.m. ET) -- Cake will celebrate yesterday's (July 24) release of its latest album, Comfort Eagle, with an intimate, unannounced club show in Los Angeles tonight (July 25). The group is being billed only as Comfort Eagle for the gig, which takes place at the 265-person-capacity Spaceland, in the city's Silver Lake neighborhood.

"Don't miss this show if you want to maintain your rock 'n' roll lifestyle," reads a note on the online service, Ticketweb.com. The semi-cryptic message refers to the song, "How Do You Afford Your Rock 'N' Roll Lifestyle?," from Cake's 1994 debut album, Motorcade Of Generosity.

This is the latest secret gig that the group has performed surrounding the release of its fourth album. Previous stealthy shows took place in San Francisco and in the group's hometown of Sacramento, California.

Cake will embark upon an announced headlining tour later this summer.

Comfort Eagle features the single, "Short Skirt/Long Jacket."
