Deftones, Queens Of The Stone Age, Rob Halford Added To Rock In Rio

(9/13/00, 4 p.m. ET) - Deftones, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Rob Halford have been added to the Rock In Rio festival, which will take place January 12-14 and January 18-21 at Rock City in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Those three acts, along with Daniela Mercury, were added to a list of performers that includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, 'N Sync, Britney Spears, Iron Maiden, Silverchair, Charlie Brown Jr., R.E.M., James Taylor, Funk 'n' Lata, Fernanda Abreu, Pato Fu, Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, O Rappa, and Barao Vermelho. More performers will be announced shortly. Five percent of the net proceeds from the concert will go to benefit education for young adults between the ages of 17 and 29. The 2001 festival is the third one. The first took place in 1985, and a second festival was held in 1991. Artists at Rock In Rio II included Guns N' Roses, George Michael, Billy Idol, Queensryche, New Kids On The Block, Debbie Gibson, and Happy Mondays. -- Darren Davis, New York
