(9/11/00, 4 p.m. ET) - Atomic Pop, an Internet-based record company that released such rap acts as Public Enemy and Ice-T, has shut down. The staff was told on Friday (September 8) that the label was closing, according to published reports. Run by industry veteran Al Teller, Atomic Pop had been having financial problems and was unable to secure a financial investor. One-time backer Rare Medium pulled its support, according to published reports. Teller, a former executive at both MCA and CBS Records, started Atomic Pop less than two years ago. The label released Public Enemy's There's A Poison Goin On ... in 1999, and Ice-T's 7th Deadly Sin in 1999 and Greatest Hits: The Evidence in August. -- Soren Baker, Los Angeles
