Happy Mondays' Bez Seriously Injured In Motorcycle Crash

(12/8/99, 3 p.m. ET) - Happy Mondays mascot Bez is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a weekend motorcycle accident in a Scotland hospital. His injuries include a punctured lung and broken ribs, and his condition has improved enough since entering the hospital to move out of the intensive care unit.

Bez was test-driving a motorcycle for a magazine when he crashed headfirst into a wall. An insurance company that has been planning an ad campaign around the accident-prone band member gave the bike to him.

A spokesman for the band told U.K. weekly music magazine NME, "All he wants to say is that he's recovering rapidly and he wants to thank all the staff at the hospital for the fantastic job they've done for him."
