Tonic Sets Last-Minute N.Y. Show For Tonight
09/07/1999 4:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(9/7/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - Since they were in New York mixing their new album, the members of Tonic have decided to play a special one-off show at New York City's Irving Plaza tonight. At the show, Tonic plans to play songs from its forthcoming album Sugar, as well as its last effort, Lemon Parade. The band plans to play about four other "one-off" shows. Tonic hails from the New York area, but went out to Los Angeles to enter into the music business. Singer Emerson Hart and guitarist Jeff Russo have one foot in the Big Apple and the other in the City Of Angels. "I like splitting my time for me personally," says Hart. "I like to have the best of both worlds. My mom still lives on the shore down in Jersey and I have a place here in the city, so we move around a lot." Adds Russo, "I come to visit my mom [in N.Y.]; this is my home, this is where I grew up. So I miss it. But I love L.A. too. It's got a good vibe except for all the fake people." Hart, however, begs to differ. "Every city is the same," he says. "I've met just as many fake people in New York City as I have in Los Angeles."
