(9/20/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Reports have surfaced that film producer, director, actor, and rapper Ice Cube is joining his former N.W.A groupmate Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment label, which is distributed by Interscope Records. When contacted by LAUNCH for comment, Aftermath representatives clarified that negotiations are still ongoing and that Ice Cube has not officially joined the label's roster, which already includes Eminem, Rakim, Truth Hurts, and Dr. Dre.
Ice Cube has released six full-length solo albums since parting ways with N.W.A. in 1989. The rapper's releases include: 1990's AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted and 1991's Death Certificate, which were both certified platinum; 1992's The Predator, which was certified double-platinum; 1993's Lethal Injection and 1998's War & Peace, Vol. 1, which were also certified platinum; and 2000's War & Peace, Vol. 2, which was certified gold.
In related news, Ice Cube's latest feature film, Barbershop, is now the Number One movie in the country. The film raked in $21 million during its first weekend in theaters.
