(9/24/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- New Limp Bizkit guitarist Mike Smith thinks fans may notice a slightly different sound on the group's new album, Results May Vary, than on their earlier ones. Smith, who used to be in Snot, told LAUNCH that the new album has a more direct rock feel, rather than the heavy metal/hip-hop blend Limp Bizkit is known for.
"Yeah, it's definitely a little more straightforward, and it's definitely hard-rocking," Smith said. "There's still some stuff on there, though, that the kids are gonna grab and be like, 'Yeah, that's Limp Bizkit!' You know, there's some songs on there that you can't deny that that's the Limp Bizkit they know. But then there's songs on there that they're gonna have to step back and go, 'Oh. OK. Wow--they're going there.' All we can hope for is that people get it and enjoy the ride that we wanna take them on."
Limp Bizkit leader Fred Durst produced Results May Vary and also directed the video for the single, "Eat You Alive."
A limited, deluxe edition of the album includes a bonus DVD with a 35-minute excerpt from the band's upcoming DVD Poop. The full-length release, which is due later this year, will feature performance and backstage footage, interviews, and some special guest stars.
Fred Durst is being sued by a St. Paul, Minnesota security company, according to the Associated Press. The firm, Azzone Security-Investigation Agency, Inc., claims that Durst kicked security guard Patrick Estes in the head during a 1999 Limp Bizkit concert. The company, which is seeking nearly $50,000 in damages, named Durst, his production company, and his record label in the suit.
Durst was initially arrested for the incident, but the charges were dismissed, and Durst reportedly said at the time that he thought Estes was a fan who was attacking his personal security guard.
An earlier civil suit filed by Estes himself was settled in April 2000, with Durst and the other defendants agreeing to pay Estes $100,000.
