Linkin Park, System Of A Down, Furtado, Lavigne Among Latin America Music Awards

(9/4/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- Linkin Park, System Of A Down, Nelly Furtado, and Avril Lavigne are among the two-time nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America, taking place October 24 in Miami Beach. The show is the first by MTV Networks Latin America, the Spanish language cable channel seen by more than 12 million households throughout Latin America.

All four artists are nominated in the category of best new artist international, joined by the Gorillaz. Meanwhile, Linkin Park and System compete for best rock artist international with Coldplay, No Doubt, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers; while Furtado and Lavigne go head-to-head with Pink, Kylie Minogue, and Britney Spears for best pop artist international.

However, nominations in the show's 14 other categories are exclusive to Latin artists, with Shakira, Juanes, and Diego Torres being named in five categories each. Others include Paulina Rubio, with four, and Enrique Iglesias, with three.

System Of A Down, Shakira, and Mana are scheduled to perform on the show, which takes place at Miami's Jackie Gleason Theater. Argentine television personality Mario Pergolini and Mexican actor Diego Luna will serve as hosts.
