3 Doors Down's 'Away From The Sun' Goes Gold

(1/4/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Away From The Sun, 3 Doors Down's sophomore album, has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of 500,000 copies. The collection reached that milestone a few weeks ago thanks to the strength of its first single, "When I'm Gone."

The album debuted at Number Eight on the Billboard 200 upon its release in November, and only took five weeks to go gold.

Vocalist Brad Arnold told LAUNCH he's hoping that Away From The Sun outsells the band's multi-platinum release, The Better Life.

"I want to blow the first one away," Arnold said. "I like the first record but I just want this one to do good enough that people... I just want to get them ready for another one, really. Because, I wanna do this for long time."

The Better Life has sold more than 5 million albums. Arnold and the rest of 3 Doors Down resume touring January 8 in Atlanta, with special guests Theory Of A Deadman.
