Kid Rock Welcomes New Rock From Strokes & White Stripes

(3/22/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Kid Rock has another hit on his hands as "Lonely Road Of Faith" sits in the top 20 of Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
The rap-rocker, however, told LAUNCH that he's willing to make a sacrifice in order to give some exposure to up-and-coming acts. "I don't mind sacrificing some of my radio time for a new kid. Play a song, let people call in, see if they like. There's just so much bullsh-t going on, to be frank," he said.
Still, Kid Rock is encouraged by recent developments in the music scene and the emergence of acts like the Strokes and the White Stripes. "There's a lot of good songs out, you know, but that doesn't really impress me. What impresses me is an artist--someone who establishes a solid career and a solid album and a solid live performance. I like the whole package. It's easy to make something and shove it down someone's throat real quick: a single, good video. I think right now music is starting to change a little bit with the Strokes and White Stripes and stuff. I think we'll see a change in the next few years. It's not bad now--it just goes in a cycle and we're in one of those cycles right now."
The Strokes recently scored a top-10 modern rock hit with "Last Nite" and are already garnering airplay with a new single, "Hard To Explain." Meanwhile, the White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl" is Number 25 with a bullet on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks this week.
