Cher Says 'Farewell' But Not Goodbye

04/07/2003 10:00 AM, Yahoo! Music
Sofia M. Fernandez

(4/7/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Cher's NBC concert special, Cher: The Farewell Tour, will air at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday (April 8).

Despite the title of the show, Cher said that she is not completely saying farewell to show business--just to the musical portion of her career, which includes releasing new albums and touring. "It's not an opening to another concert," Cher said. "This is definitely farewell. But, yeah, I'm not gonna just, you know, go away someplace. I'm not MacArthur--I'm not gonna just fade away, but there are other things I want to do. I mean, look, I'm already doing this movie with the Farrelly brothers, and that's really fun. I want to do other things."

Cher is currently filming Stuck On You, directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly (There's Something About Mary). The movie is due for release in December.

Cher also said that one of the things she would like to do is get back on the Broadway stage, or star in a musical movie. "I'd like to do Broadway again," Cher said. "I had a great time doing it. It seems like musicals are coming back, and so that would be something fun to do. I've never had the opportunity to sing and act in a film."

The star's NBC special was taped at the American Airlines Arena in Miami in November. It features her recent singles, "Song For The Lonely" and "A Different Kind Of Love Song," as well as her Grammy-winning hit, "Believe," and other material from her four-decade career.
