(10/22/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Yolanda Adams found comfort when the Hopeville Tour with Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin stopped in Houston, her hometown, Friday (October 18) at the Lakewood Church.
During her one-hour set, which featured her songs "I Gotta Believe," "The Battle Is The Lord's," and "Never Give Up," Adams overcame technical issues with her microphone and problems with her voice, and was lauded with applause and cheers from the attendants packed in the sold-out event.
Adams told LAUNCH that she did not feel nervous about performing in her hometown. "Nah. As a matter of fact, I felt more support because as you heard tonight, I was more foggy than I've been in a long time. And I could feel the love coming from the audience, you know, 'Keep going. Keep going.' So, I think it made it even better for me."
Instead of allowing minor setbacks to hamper her performance, Adams enhanced her set with impromptu scatting and spoken-word segments.
Adams released her last album, Believe, on Elektra Entertainment in 2001.
The Hopeville Tour passes through the Fox Theatre in Detroit Tuesday (October 22).
