Kid Rock Charges Fraud In Lawsuit

(5/13/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- Kid Rock has filed a lawsuit against a Michigan businessman who claims to have signed a contact with the artist 12 years ago that would have split profits from all future album sales, according to the Associated Press.
In the suit, filed earlier this month in U.S. District Court, Rock alleges that a contract between he and Alvin Williams dated February 10, 1989 is a fraud. "This is completely bogus," Rock's attorney, William Horton, told the news services. "Where were they for 12 years?"
According to Horton, Williams's business involvement with Rock was as an investor for one album in 1989, the Jive Records release, Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast. However, Williams's attorney, Gregory Reed, countered that his client was part of an investment team that funded Rock's career with $100,000.
Reed also said that Williams has not in fact been inactive in seeking reparations for the last 12 years, previously having sought legal aid but never taking the step to file an actual lawsuit.
