Brian Wilson Tribute Show Officially Announced

(3/8/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- As expected, Elton John, Heart, and Beatles producer George Martin are among those who have been officially announced for the upcoming An All-Star Tribute To Brian Wilson. Also paying tribute to the former Beach Boy will be Paul Simon, Matthew Sweet, the husband-and-wife team of Michael Penn & Aimee Mann, Ronnie Spector, and actor Dennis Hopper. In addition to the many songs that will be played by his fans that night, Brian Wilson will perform the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds in its entirety. Other performers are expected to be announced in the days leading up to the concert.

The show, set for March 29 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, honors Wilson for his nearly 40-year music career, both as the driving force behind the Beach Boys and as a solo artist. Tickets, priced from $53 to $178, go on sale Monday (March 12) at 10 a.m. ET through Ticketmaster, and any unsold seats will be offered at the Radio City Music Hall box office the following day. The event will be taped and broadcast on TNT this summer, with July 4 as the rumored premiere date.

Wilson told LAUNCH that, to him, making music isn't a choice--rather, it's an obligation: "It's still fun thinking of...it's my duty in life to create music for people."

An All-Star Tribute To Brian Wilson is the latest edition of TNT's Master Series, which has featured the salutes Burt Bacharach: One Amazing Night (1998), 1999's An All-Star Tribute To Johnny Cash and One Love: The Bob Marley All-Star Tribute, and last year's An All-Star Tribute To Joni Mitchell.
