Yolanda Adams And R. Kelly Recieve Multiple NAACP Image Awards

(3/2/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- Yolanda Adams and R. Kelly received multiple awards Thursday (March 1) at The NAACP Music Image Awards...And More ceremony. Of the 12 music-related categories presented, Adams won four and Kelly won two.
Adams was named outstanding gospel artist, contemporary; outstanding performance in a variety series/special for her appearance on the 'Soul Train' Lady Of Soul Awards; outstanding female artist; and outstanding song for her single "Open My Heart."
Kelly received the outstanding music-video award for his "I Wish" video and the outstanding male artist award.
Bad Boy recording artist Carl Thomas received the outstanding new artist award. LL Cool J was named outstanding hip-hop/rap artist. Aaron Neville received the outstanding gospel artist honor. The late Grover Washington, Jr. was recognized with the outstanding jazz artist award. Destiny's Child was named outstanding duo or group, and Stevie Wonder's At The Close Of The Century was dubbed the outstanding album.
The NAACP Music Image Awards...And More is scheduled to air in June. The NAACP Image Awards: A Journey Of Excellence, which recognizes outstanding work in film and television, is scheduled to air March 9.
