Mary J, Destiny's Child, Angie Stone Big Winners At Lady Of Soul Awards

(9/5/00, 3 p.m. ET) - It was a big night for the Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, hot group Destiny's Child, and singer-songwriter Angie Stone at the sixth annual Soul Train Lady Of Soul Awards, which were presented Saturday (September 2) at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California. All three acts won two awards apiece: Blige won R&B/soul or rap song of the year for her hit "All That I Can Say" and R&B/soul album of the year, solo, for Mary. Destiny's Child earned honors for R&B/soul single, group, band or duo with "Say My Name," and R&Bsoul album of the year, group, band, or duo for The Writing's On The Wall. Stone won R&B/soul or rap new artist, solo and R&B/soul single, solo, for her hit "No More Rain (In This Cloud)." In addition, Toni Braxton was honored with the Aretha Franklin award for entertainer of the year, and Halle Berry received the Lena Horne award for outstanding career achievement.
