Queensryche To Experience The Music Project
06/13/2000 10:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(6/13/00, 10 a.m. ET) - Queensryche is scheduled to perform on June 25 as part of the grand opening of the Experience Music Project, the Seattle rock museum built by Microsoft mogul Paul Allen in part to honor the music of the Pacific Northwest. But the Bellevue, Washington, hard-rock band will also participate in what's on display by donating instruments, clothing, hand-written lyric sheets, and other memorabilia from its 18-year recording career. Lead singer Geoff Tate tells LAUNCH how it all came about. "The EMP people came to us about two years ago and they said, 'Look, we're building this museum and we want to exhibit Northwest music history and we feel Queensryche is part of that history, and we want to make an exhibit honoring what you have done with your career.' And we thought, 'Oh, well, that's very flattering. . . hmmm.' After we got over our initial shock, we said, 'Well, how can we help you? How can we help you honor us?,'" Tate says with a laugh. Queensryche will perform at Memorial Stadium with several other noted artists from the region, including Heart's Ann Wilson, Screaming Trees, Built To Spill, Mudhoney, Young Fresh Fellows, and Subset, featuring Sir Mix-A-Lot and the Presidents Of The United States Of America. Meanwhile, look for Queensryche Greatest Hits to arrive at stores on June 27. The album collects 14 songs from the group's six releases as well as two bonus tracks. -- Neal Weiss, Los Angeles
