(9/16/02, 3 p.m. ET) -- In a surprisingly strong showing, MGM's ensemble comedy Barbershop leapt past My Big Fat Greek Wedding to take the Number One spot at the box office. Barbershop, which stars rapper-actors Eve and Ice Cube as well as stand-up comedian Cedric the Entertainer, swept up $21 million from moviegoers this weekend.
Barbershop's performance means that My Big Fat Greek Wedding stayed in the Number Two spot, but with its $11 million weekend performance the sleeper hit managed to pass the $100 million mark. The indie comedy's total gross stands at around $110.7 million, which is even more impressive considering that the movie only cost $5 million to make.
In third place was a psycho Robin Williams in his new thriller, One Hour Photo. The movie took in $7.7 million, while the new comedy Stealing Harvard only pocketed $6.3 million, good enough for fourth place.
Swimfan, the movie that enjoyed an unexpected Number One debut last weekend, sank hard in theaters and finished fifth with just $6.1 million in sales, or about half of its opening take.
