System Of A Down Bassist Releases Statement On Security Lawsuit

(3/12/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- System Of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has filed a lawsuit against a Detroit-area security company over an incident in which he was allegedly assaulted.

In the complaint, filed recently in Kent County Circuit Court, the bassist claims that members of DK Security elbowed him in the face and dragged him out of Van Andel Arena when he tried to get backstage at a System show during the set by co-headliners Slipknot. The alleged incident took place October 20th, 2001.

Odadjian's lawyer said in a statement that the assault was "abhorrent," could have been avoided, and was unprovoked.

The bassist is seeking damages in the amount of $25,000, three times the amount of the plaintiffs' actual damages, and all attorneys fees. Right now the case is in a period of discovery between counsel for the plaintiffs and defendants. That will last three to six months, and if no resolution is released the case will go to trial.
