(4/29/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- The Offspring and Social Distortion share the marquee at Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huckjam, which debuts Saturday (April 27) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The Huckjam offers a day of extreme sports and punk rock.
Skateboarding superstar Hawk tells LAUNCH about the groups he selected. "I feel like they really covered the spectrum of skating, you know, Social Distortion from early-'80s punk and then Offspring is, you know, punk of today. So, it was just a good mix and we got the top-line billing. I mean, with all the riders, it's awesome," he says.
Hawk recalls his early days on the board. "Punk rock [was] blaring in the skate parks, always," he says.
Others joining Hawk at the Huckjam include fellow skateboarders Andy MacDonald and Bob Burnquist, BMX riders Mat Hoffman and Dave Mirra, and motocross riders Carey Hart and Mike Cinqmars.
The Vegas event will be taped by ESPN for airing this summer. As well, a 24-city Huckjam tour is being planned for this fall.
