(8/8/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- The White Stripes and the Strokes, the heroes of the new garage-rock movement, play the first of four highly anticipated shows together Thursday (August 8) at Clutch Cargo's in the Detroit suburb of Pontiac, Michigan.
The series of dates moves to Detroit's Chene Park on Friday (August 9) before heading to the Strokes' New York base for shows at Irving Plaza (August 14) and Radio City Music Hall (August 15).
White Stripes singer-guitarist Jack White tells LAUNCH that the groups have been friends since meeting in England last year, and the Strokes actually pitched the idea of the joint concerts. "It was their idea," he says. "They wanted to do it. They thought it would be cool to do 'cause we're fans of each other's bands. We just tried to play in their hometown and play in our hometown and not try to exploit it too much, you know?"
White Stripes, who are nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards, have finished recording their fourth album in England for expected release in early 2003. The Strokes plan to begin recording their second album this fall.
