Charlie Daniels To Perform Banned Song On Nashville PBS Station
06/22/2002 10:00 AM, Yahoo! Music Brett Anderson
(6/22/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- The PBS network may have squelched Charlie Daniels's performance of what it considers an angry song from its upcoming A Capitol Fourth holiday special; however, a Nashville PBS affiliate has invited the legendary performer to sing the song for local airing. Daniels penned "The Last Fallen Hero" in remembrance of the victims of the September 11 attacks.
Daniels has every intention of taking WNPT President Steve Bass up on his offer to record the singer's performance and air it either before or after A Capitol Fourth on July 4. "It looks like it's a perfectly fine song expressing a sentiment many of us feel," Bass told the Tennessean. Bass added that the problem is between Daniels and the special's producer, Jerry Colbert, an independent producer who was hired strictly for the special and is not an employee of PBS. A Capitol Fourth begins at 8 p.m. ET.
