(9/19/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- Manhattan buzz band the Strokes has pulled the song "New York City Cops" from its upcoming RCA Records debut album, Is This It, due to last week's terrorist attacks in the city. "There's a sensitivity toward what's going on, and the band doesn't feel it's appropriate," says a spokesperson.
The song includes the chorus: "New York City cops, they ain't too smart." However, the Strokes' spokesperson explains, "It's not an anti-cop song, it's a third-person narrative about a girl escaping the police."
The song will be replaced by "When It Started," a new tune recorded last weekend. The move has delayed the release until October 9. Is This It was originally scheduled to arrive in stores September 25.
Is This It is one of the more hotly anticipated arrivals this fall among music industry insiders. The group has already cultivated a rabid following in the U.K. based on an EP released overseas.
