(3/26/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- Matchbox Twenty has rescheduled some of the tour dates it postponed for its upcoming European concert tour.
The band pushed the dates back "due to the current war in Iraq and resulting global uncertainty," according to a statement from the band's label, Atlantic Records, on Friday (March 21).
The tour was scheduled to kick off on Tuesday (March 25) in Cologne, Germany, and was to visit Germany, England, Scotland, Amsterdam, France, and Holland.
The Paris and Amsterdam venues are still being determined. The original venue in Glasgow, the Clyde Auditorium, was not available within the new time frame, so the event was moved to the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC). Tickets for the Clyde Auditorium show will be exchanged for the best seats at the SECC.
Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas said that the recording of the band's current album, More Than You Think You Are, reminded the bandmembers that, in the end, their job is really about having fun with what they do. "At the heart of it, it's five idiots that get together to play music and have a good time, and we don't want to lose that," Thomas said. "And so, in this record we found that again. You know, like, we are a family, and so we'll keep on being that way."
Matchbox Twenty will kick off the North American leg of its 2003 More Than You Think You Are tour at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on April 25. Sugar Ray and Maroon 5 will open the shows on the outing.
