A.F.I. Says, 'We're Not A Goth-Punk Band'

(3/27/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- A.F.I. is garnering extensive airplay with "Girl's Not Grey," and its album Sing The Sorrow, but the band thinks it's getting a bum rap when it comes to classification. Many people refer to A.F.I. as a "goth-punk" band, which drummer Adam Carson said is a big misconception. In his opinion, his band is more complex than that.
"That we're goth-punk band. I think that we're multi-varied and multi-layered and to take two of them and say that's what the band is about...I certainly wouldn't want to listen to a goth-punk band," Carson said. "I'm not sure what that sounds like, but I don't want to listen to it."
Carson added that the band also incorporates pop, metal, and rock, as well as the aforementioned punk and goth. He added that he feels goth is more of a fashion style than a music style.
