(7/8/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Hip-hop mogul Suge Knight may be facing up to a year in prison if the California Board Of Prison Terms decides the mogul violated his parole during an incident in which he allegedly punched a valet on June 21 at the Papas nightclub. Knight, who was arrested on Friday, June 27, and held without bail, recently released a statement explaining what exactly transpired on June 21.
In a statement via his attorney Rose Kogeman, Knight said, "Early Saturday morning, June 21, outside of Papas nightclub in Los Angeles, my client Suge Knight was attending a meeting with Minister Tony Mohammed to work on plans for the upcoming 100,000-man March For Peace. Mr. Knight left the club with a group of people, including Mr. Mohammed, and went to retrieve his car. At this time another patron, while waiting for his vehicle, got angry and shoved the valet. There were numerous individuals present and many of them have already given statements--which we have provided to the Parole And Community Services Department--indicating Mr. Knight was not involved in the altercation. One of those individuals is Mr. Mohammed, who will provide a statement today corroborating Mr. Knight's innocence."
Knight is currently in jail awaiting a determination by the California Board of Prison Terms. They have 30 days to decide whether or not to revoke his parole.
Knight spent 61 days in jail after an arrest last December for violating the terms of his parole by associating with gang members.
