(9/5/03, 6 p.m. ET) -- The Boston Herald reports that Great White will receive $6,000 for playing a benefit concert in Weymouth, Massachusetts, on September 26. The show is part of a 40-date tour that the band is doing to raise money for the Station Family Fund, which assists families of victims of the Rhode Island nightclub fire that took one hundred lives on February 20.
The Herald reports that the band's fee for the Weymouth show is actually $1,000 more than what they were supposed to make the night the fire broke out at the Station club in West Warwick, Rhode Island.
Great White's concert Friday (September 5) at the Jaxx nightclub in West Springfield, Virginia, is back on after having nearly been scrapped. Club owner Jay Nedry cited cash flow problems as the reason for the cancellation, but posted on the club's website that those issues have been resolved. Over 50 people from Rhode Island, including some survivors of the Station fire, were reportedly planning to attend.
Another club owner, Andrew Rome, told the Herald that he was "shocked" at the band's fee when he booked Great White at his former venue, Liquid, in Leominster, Massachusetts. Rome said he was informed that the band needed the money to "cover expenses." The show was canceled when Rome sold the club.
