Pharrell Williams Surprised By 'Clones' Chart-Topping Debut

(9/2/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who make up the production team the Neptunes, sold 249,000 copies of their debut Star Trak album, the Neptunes Present: Clones, to top the Billboard 200 chart. The set, featuring guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, Clipse, Foxy Brown, and Dirt McGirt, among others, also contains the hit single "Frontin'" featuring Jay-Z.

The Neptunes are probably best know for their behind-the-scenes production and songwriting work for artists such as Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly.

Pharrell told LAUNCH that he's thrilled to finally see his own album on the top of the chart. "I was very, very, very surprised," Pharrell said. "That's due to like just good people like you guys just giving us a chance to put something different out and I'm very, very appreciative. I know not a lot of people know us, but the fact that you guys let the music persevere and bring us to Number One is an incredible feeling."
