Evanescence returned to the stage Sunday (May 16) with a one-off show in Florida before jetting off to Europe for a headlining tour that begins on the 20. The band has been on a two-month break after being on the road for over a year straight, and singer Amy Lee told LAUNCH that they welcomed the time off. "We needed it so badly," Lee said. "By the end of the last tour, we were just, like, suffering through it, the last couple of weeks of it. It was just like, 'Man, we've got to go home.' We just had to kind of insist that we had time off and then finally we got it, and it was just like, 'ah.' So that's why it was funny that a week later, Terry's (Balsamo, guitarist) calling, going, 'I want to go back on the road!' (laughs) So it was cool, but yeah, it was definitely very much needed by all of us."
Lee told LAUNCH that her and boyfriend, Shaun Morgan of Seether, spent two weeks during the break on a South Pacific vacation: "We went to this remote island that you have to, like, take a seaplane to get to and all this stuff. And it was great because there was a huge hurricane the last day that we were there, and we had to stay an extra day, but it was really scary. We were, like, hiding in the shower, like, with pillows and stuff, like, reading Hannibal (laughs). So it was actually a really fun trip."
Evanescence and Seether will begin a North American tour on July 7.
