(7/6/00, 5 p.m. ET) - While Eve 6's "Promise" is the first single off the Los Angeles band's upcoming album, Horrorscope, the song is actually one of the older tunes by the pop-punk trio. Vocalist/bassist Max Collins wrote most of the song before Eve 6's self-titled major-label debut arrived in 1998, and has often included it in the live show. Back then, the band knew it had a good thing going with the song, but Collins still wasn't completely satisfied with it when the time came to record. He tells LAUNCH that it was the addition of the f-word that made the difference.

"The chorus was just repeating, 'Promise not to try not to let you down.' And, you know, listening to that in the studio, it was like, the verses are great, you know, it's like punch, punch, punch, but the chorus is kinda lacking something," he says. "It needs something else. So, that's where the f--k came in."

Eve 6 is currently on tour with Goldfinger and Dynamite Hack. Horrorscope arrives in stores on July 25.
