Semisonic Doesn't Rage Or Mix With Korn And Limp Bizkit, Says Wilson

(3/18/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Minneapolis trio Semisonic topped the Billboard Modern Rock chart in May 1998 with "Closing Time." Since then, however, alternative radio has seemingly closed the door to much of the more melodic-style pop-rock played by Semisonic and others in favor of the hard-hitting rock-rap hybrid favored by Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Linkin Park.
Semisonic, which released the new album All About Chemistry last week, seems to be suffering from the trend. Its current single, "Chemistry," has barely cracked the Modern Rock chart. Nonetheless, Semisonic singer-songwriter Dan Wilson told LAUNCH that he's not overly concerned about the current trends: "I don't know. I never thought we sort of fit into some school or herd, or whatever it is. And, whatever herd seems to be sort of barreling past never sweeps us into it anyway. Definitely, it would be funny if we played a bill with Korn and Limp Bizkit, but it would be kind of stupid, you know, so I think we're not going to do it. I just kind of think our irrelevance to that makes it easy not to think too much about it."
In addition, fans should not expect Semisonic to alter its sound to fit in with the current anger-rock trend, said Wilson, "I think it would be entertaining for people to hear me trying to sound, like, rageful and hateful, and kind of rocking in that way, but that's the kind of humor I don't want to provide for the public, really."
