(1/14/00, 5 p.m. ET) - Devo is being celebrated with a two-disc career retrospective. Devo: Pioneers Who Got Scalped (The Anthology), due to be released on April 25, collects the band's well-known hits, as well as rare and previously unreleased tracks. A bonus new song recorded specifically for the anthology, "The Words Get Stuck In My Throat," is also included on the set. Among the rare tracks on the set are "One Dumb Thing" from the CD-ROM game Interstate '82, the U.K. single version of "Be Stiff," and non-album B-sides "Soo-Bawlz" and "Nu-Tra Speaks." Also included are the band's covers of the Rolling Stones's "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," Johnny Rivers's "Secret Agent Man," Lee Dorsey's "Working In The Coal Mine," Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced," and Nine Inch Nails's "Head Like A Hole." Devo's contributions to various films are also collected on the retrospective, some of which have never been released before. Among the film songs are "Theme From Doctor Detroit," the Fright Night song "Let's Talk," "Bread And Butter" from 9 1/2 Weeks, "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" from Revenge Of The Nerds II: Nerds In Paradise, "I Wouldn't Do That To You" from Happy Hour, "It Takes A Worried Man" from Neil Young's film Human Highway, and a pair from Meet Wally Sparks, "Thanks To You" and "Communication Break-Up." In recent years, Devo lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh has been concentrating on his film and television scoring career -- he's contributed music to more than forty releases, including Rugrats (the show and the movie), Dawson's Creek, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Rushmore, The Birdcage, Happy Gilmore, Bongwater, and 200 Cigarettes. -- Barry Jeckell, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions?
