Luke Says He Recognized Trick Daddy's Talent Early On

(2/28/01, 3 p.m. ET) -- Trick Daddy is already on track to score another hit record, as his single "Take It To The House" is steadily climbing the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Sales & Tracks chart.
Fellow Miami hip-hopper Luke says he is not surprised by Trick Daddy's success, and says he attempted to get Trick Daddy signed with Island Records years ago, when Luke had a distribution deal with them. Trick Daddy actually made his commercial debut on Luke's "Scarred," the first release from his Uncle Luke album.
Although Luke was bitter that his distribution deal at the time prevented him from signing Trick Daddy, Luke told LAUNCH that he is happy that his friend's career has excelled: "I feel great. You know, I feel good about it. Everyday I see this kid go out there and do his thang and sell his records, I'm just as proud as his daddy, you know what I'm sayin', because I saw that in him."
Trick Daddy's next album Thugs Are Us is scheduled for a March 20 release.
