Staind's Lewis Calls Alice In Chains' Staley A 'Tragedy'

(4/23/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley, who was found dead on Friday (April 19) at his home in Seattle, left his mark on some of the current crop of alternative rock stars.

Staind singer Aaron Lewis discussed Staley in an interview with LAUNCH last year, at a time when Staley's battles with drug addiction left him missing in action from the rock scene.

"One of the biggest tragedies in music today is Layne Staley," he said. "Absolutely an amazing, amazing singer and songwriter, and is wasting away somewhere hiding out from everybody and just wasting so much unbelievable talent. It's sad."
