Fat Joe Arrested For Assault

(7/11/02, 2 p.m. ET) -- Rapper Fat Joe (Joseph Cartagena) turned himself in to the police at New York Midtown South station on Wednesday (July 10) after he was named as a suspect in an assault. The assault in question took place at 4 a.m. ET on May 12 at New York's B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, located on 42nd Street in Times Square. The victim of the assault, a Latino male whose identity was not released, suffered a broken jaw in the altercation.

Fat Joe is facing a charge of second-degree assault. In 1998, the rapper was arrested along with his now-deceased protege Big Pun for allegedly hitting a man with a baseball bat and taking his gold chain during the city's annual Puerto Rican Day parade.

The rapper's latest release, Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.), has been certified platinum and is currently Number 156 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
