Love Postpones Concert Tour Amid Legal Woes

Singer-actress Courtney Love ,
facing mounting legal problems due to drug possession and
assault charges in two states, has postponed a summer concert
tour just days before it was due to begin, her representative
said on Tuesday.
Late last week, Love, 39, turned herself in to authorities
to face a felony assault charge stemming from an altercation
with another woman at the Los Angeles home of her ex-boyfriend
and onetime manager, Jim Barber, in April.
The performer was later released after posting $55,000 in
bail and is scheduled to appear July 9 for an arraignment on
the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of four years in
prison, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.
Love's latest legal problem comes just weeks after she
pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to being under the influence of
cocaine when she was arrested last Oct. 2 by police who found
her outside Barber's home breaking windows. The former singer
for the band Hole faces separate drug possession charges in
Beverly Hills and an unrelated assault charge in New York City.
Love's spokeswoman, Heidi Schaeffer, said the artist's tour
had been postponed and that Love planned to reschedule the
dates in the future. But Ticketmaster's Web site shows various
show dates as canceled.
The 21-show tour was set to kick off on Friday in New
Haven, Connecticut, and close on July 23 in Los Angeles.
Love also has been charged with assault in connection with
a New York nightclub performance in which police said she threw
a microphone stand into the audience, striking a man on the
head. Hours before her arrest in Manhattan, Love bared her
breasts during an appearance on the CBS "Late Show with David
Letterman."
In the most recent case against her, Love is accused of
assaulting a woman with a bottle and a metal flashlight on
April 25 at Barber's home.
The singer's lawyer could not immediately be reached for
comment.
