Elton John Strolls Down 'Peachtree Road'

05/13/2004 5:50 PM, Reuters

Elton John , who threatened a few years ago never to record again, is eyeing a November release for his next studio album, "Peachtree Road," a reference to the famed thoroughfare in his adopted home base of Atlanta.

The album is John's first album since 2001's "Songs From the West Coast" (Rocket/Universal), which debuted at No. 15 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 587,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. During a concert in late 2001, he announced he was "fed up" with recording, "and it's about time for me to get out." He later withdrew the threat, reportedly ascribing his outburst to a "bad hair day."

According to the artist's official Web site (http://www.eltonjohn.com), the new set features the tracks "Freaks in Love" and "Turn the Lights Out When You Leave."

John begins a run of solo dates May 24 in Calabria, Italy. Beginning June 28, he will play five shows in the United Kingdom backed by an orchestra and choir, dovetailing into a similar five-night stint in mid-July at New York's Radio City Music Hall. His ongoing engagement at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas will resume July 23.

John is among the guests on Brian Wilson 's upcoming album, "Gettin' in Over My Head," due June 22 via Rhino.
