John Mayer likes Trick Daddy's music.

That was one of several eye-openers from the soft-rocker in the latest issue of XXL. In case you're wondering what Mayer is doing in a rap magazine, he's become a favorite of MCs from Jay-Z to Kanye West.

Why? "The white man will always respect the black man's rhythm, and the black man will always respect the white man's melody," Mayer says.

Not that all rap rhythms deserve respect. Especially those who receive Grammy nominations for, say, "Let's Get It Started."

"Black Eyed Peas seem cool but what they're doing has the least amount of substance I've heard in any pop music. Ever," Mayer said. "It's like, Okay. When DOES it get started?"
