Raising awareness of poverty and other afflictions suffered by Africa isn't a distant cause for Destiny's Chile, which will be among the acts performing at the Live 8 concert in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Some of the top musicians and groups in the world will perform during the series of 10 concerts. In addition to Destiny's Child, the Philadelphia concert features the Dave Matthews Band, Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder, P. Diddy, Jay-Z and Kanye West.
"We're just really happy to be a part of such an important event, a historical event," Beyonce Knowles told AP Radio in an interview recently. "And I know when you have the attention of so many people, you have to take advantage of it and do something positive with it."
Knowles said that she and fellow Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland have been to Africa and witnessed the poverty there firsthand.
"We've seen the children. I've held some babies that were sick of AIDS. I've seen the orphanages, and we've seen it with our own eyes, and it's real," Knowles said.
