The Flaming Lips are set to be immortalised in a Broadway production based on the landmark album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.
The space-pop heroes are understood to be in discussions with a series of renowned TV producers about putting the album on the stage.
Aaron Sorkin, of West Wing fame, and award-winning Tommy director Des McAnuff are reported to be behind the project.
Wayne Coyne confirmed the reports in a recent interview, although he admits the 2002 album is "not really a story."
"When Des heard the record, he heard a lot about death and loss and the triumph of your own optimism...he had an emotional attachment to it," Coyne explained.
"I tell people all the time, it's not really a story. It's more like a mood. There's a Japanese girl; she fights some robots; that's five minutes. After that I don't know."
