Arcade Fire singer has surgery

Arcade Fire's Win Butler has undergone surgery to rid himself of the health problems that saw the band cancel a string of European shows recently.

The singer in the Canadian rock band is understood to be on the road to recovery after succumbing to the sinus and bronchial infection after a gig in Norway last month.

In a posting on the band's official website, Butler confirmed the group hopes to continue the promotion of acclaimed current album Neon Bible with a full American tour later this month.

He explained: "Just wanted to let you all know that the surjery [sic] was successful, and I am recovering nicely. Thank you for all of your thoughts and emails. I will probably start singing again this week some time to try and get ready for the shows in North America."
