Weiland Pilots New Solo Effort

09/03/2008 4:00 AM, E! Online
Josh Grossberg

Come on, fans, Scott Weiland wants you to get Happy.

The Stone Temple Pilots frontman has announced plans to drop his second solo album, simply titled Happy, in stores everywhere Nov. 18 via Weiland's own Softdrive label.

The disc arrives a full decade after the trouble-prone rocker released his first go-it-alone effort, 1998's 12 Bar Blues, which sank quickly on the charts despite decent reviews.

According to Billboard, Happy sports guest appearances by three No Doubt members—bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont, and drummer Adrian Young—as well as cuts produced by studio wiz Steve Albini, who engineered classic albums by the likes of Cheap Trick, Nirvana and Pixies.

After being fired from Velvet Revolver earlier this year, Weiland, 40, reunited with his STP bandmates for a successful summer tour, their first concerts together in six years.

Once that jaunt winds down Oct. 31 in Pelham, Ala., Weiland will move into Happy mode, embarking on a brief solo promo tour in November, after which he and the Pilots will get to work on their sixth studio album.
