J.E. Heartbreak

Vic Everett

It's impractical not to like Jagged Edge's mellow impression of R&B music, although the R&B singers seems to have lost all interest in creating radio hits. J.E. Heartbreak is the latest CD to reflect Jagged Edge's works, and contains the type of tongue-in-cheek material Jagged Edge fans will undoubtedly appreciate.

More highbrow than many R&B projects available today, Jagged Edge offers effulgent takes on our global society. In fact, the group remains true to form throughout J.E. Heartbreak. Fans shouldn't expect anything less. After helping to clarify the look and sound of the R&B generation, the performers have innovated their delivery, sophisticated musical conscience, and strong sense of self-reliance. Although Jagged Edge hasn't ventured into new directions on their latest project, they stay focused on tunes like "Did She Say" and "Let's Get Married." By confronting concepts other artists have slowly retreated from, Jagged Edge revels in a freedom that those same artists take for granted.

The release of J.E. Heartbreak comes at a time when R&B's Generation Next is taking more responsibility with its images, and with a little luck (and lots of airplay) J.E. Heartbreak could give GN detractors something to think about.
