On The 6

On her debut as an international recording artist, everyone's favorite beauteous big butt, Jennifer Lopez, is all things to all people: House music queen ("Waiting For Tonight"), heart-stricken femme fatale ("Should've Never"), hip-hop wannabe ("Feelin So Good"), the Latino Brandy ("Open Off My Love") (??), and Mambo queen ("It's Not That Serious"). Jennifer hangs true to her Puerto Rican roots with songs by Gloria Estefan and a duet with Latino star Marc Antoine, but you get the feeling she would serve shish kebab to Eskimos if the teen market was hip to beef.
Her girlish voice somewhere between Brandy and Janet Jackson, Lopez is nowhere near the prowling sex bomb her Hollywood image suggests, but more of a fragile kitten singing juvenile fantasies at the mall. By comparison, Vanessa Williams is Janis Joplin. And unlike David Hasselhoff, Lopez will probably sell tons of records outside of Germany. In keeping with the corporate five-year-plan, Jennifer Lopez arrives a fully preened and poised pop star ready for mass consumption, and she absolutely glistens in skimpy clothing.
